King James Version (1769)

Untruth

Misinterpretations often portray Joshua's delayed inheritance as greed or favoritism, suggesting he waited to claim prime land, whereas he accepted a modest portion humbly given by the people; others erroneously apply it to justify modern land grabs or unequal resource distribution, ignoring its unique covenantal context of God's equitable division among tribes, or mistakenly view it as Joshua being overlooked, missing the honor in his selfless position after fulfilling his leadership duties.

Truth

This verse concludes the division of the Promised Land among Israel's tribes, with Joshua humbly receiving his inheritance last, exemplifying servant leadership and selflessness as the faithful leader who prioritized the settlement of all others before his own portion in the hill country, reflecting obedience to God's sovereign plan and the principle that great leaders serve rather than grasp for privilege.
