Joshua 5:2

King James Version (1769)

2 At that time the Lord said unto Joshua, Make thee sharp knives, and circumcise again the children of Israel the second time.
Untruth

Common misinterpretations include seeing the command as endorsing ritual mutilation or violence without recognizing its covenantal purpose as a sign of God's promises to Abraham; misunderstanding 'the second time' as circumcising the same generation twice rather than a new uncirucmcised one; or imposing it as a perpetual legalistic requirement on Christians today, overlooking its typological fulfillment in Christ's circumcision of the heart through faith.

Truth

God commands Joshua to circumcise the Israelite males born in the wilderness, as they had not received this covenant sign during the forty years of wandering, renewing Israel's commitment to the Abrahamic covenant of separation and obedience just before entering the Promised Land, symbolizing spiritual purification and readiness for conquest.
