Judges 16:9

King James Version (1769)

9 Now there were men lying in wait, abiding with her in the chamber. And she said unto him, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he brake the withs, as a thread of tow is broken when it toucheth the fire. So his strength was not known.
Untruth

A common misinterpretation views Samson's playful endurance of these tests as mere foolish flirtation with sin or moral recklessness deserving immediate judgment, overlooking God's sovereign use of his imperfections to advance deliverance for Israel; others mistakenly reduce his strength to innate physical might rather than supernatural endowment from the Lord, or isolate the event to condemn deception without considering the Philistines' oppression and Samson's mandated confrontation as a deliverer.

Truth

This verse depicts Delilah's third deceptive test on Samson, where she binds him with fresh bowstrings while feigning a Philistine attack, yet his God-given strength, empowered by the Spirit through his Nazirite vow, enables him to snap them effortlessly like flax touched by fire, concealing the true source of his power and underscoring his role as Israel's divinely appointed judge against the Philistines amid his growing overconfidence.
