Judges 2:14

King James Version (1769)

14 And the anger of the Lord was hot against Israel, and he delivered them into the hands of spoilers that spoiled them, and he sold them into the hands of their enemies round about, so that they could not any longer stand before their enemies.
Untruth

Misinterpretations often portray God as arbitrarily cruel or unloving, ignoring the context of Israel's covenant-breaking idolatry after His mighty deliverance; others wrongly assume this justifies all modern suffering as direct punishment without considering personal sin or broader biblical themes of grace, or misapply it to endorse human vengeance rather than recognizing it as God's sovereign judgment aimed at repentance.

Truth

This passage reveals the core truth that Israel's persistent disobedience, including incomplete conquest of the land and turning to foreign gods, provoked God's righteous anger, resulting in Him handing them over to their enemies for spoiling and oppression, demonstrating the covenantal consequences of rebellion and the purpose of divine discipline to humble and restore His people.
