A common misinterpretation of Judges 6:16 views 'go in this thy might' as relying on Gideon's own natural talents or courage, promoting self-reliance rather than dependence on God's empowerment; others mistakenly see it as proof that God only calls confident leaders, ignoring Gideon's persistent doubts and pleas for signs, or twist it into a prosperity formula for personal success disconnected from God's redemptive purposes for Israel.
Judges 6:16
King James Version (1769)
16 And the Lord said unto him, Surely I will be with thee, and thou shalt smite the Midianites as one man.
In Judges 6:16, God commissions Gideon to deliver Israel from the Midianites, assuring him that his strength lies not in personal ability but in God's empowering presence and divine sending, transforming Gideon's fear and inadequacy into effective obedience through faith in Yahweh's promise and companionship.
