Luke 12:1

King James Version (1769)

1 In the mean time, when there were gathered together an innumerable multitude of people, insomuch that they trode one upon another, he began to say unto his disciples first of all, Beware ye of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.
Untruth

Common misinterpretations include viewing the passage as a wholesale rejection of all Pharisaic or Jewish teachings rather than specifically targeting hypocrisy, which distorts it into antisemitic rhetoric; taking leaven literally as a dietary prohibition instead of a metaphor for pervasive insincerity; or limiting its application to ancient religious leaders, overlooking its timeless call for personal authenticity in all believers to avoid hidden corruption of character.

Truth

Jesus warns his disciples amid a massive crowd to beware of the Pharisees' hypocrisy, symbolized as leaven that secretly permeates and corrupts like yeast in dough, emphasizing the need for authentic faith and integrity in one's spiritual life, as pretense cannot endure God's scrutiny and will inevitably be revealed.
