Luke 15:4

King James Version (1769)

4 What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it?
Untruth

Misinterpretations often portray the shepherd's action as irresponsible or reckless abandonment of the ninety-nine sheep, overlooking the parable's illustrative purpose and implied safety of the flock; others reduce it to literal pastoral advice unrelated to salvation, ignoring Jesus' context of defending His ministry to sinners; or twist it to endorse neglecting the faithful majority in favor of prodigals, missing the emphasis on God's inclusive pursuit rather than human resource allocation.

Truth

The parable illustrates God's profound love and initiative in seeking out lost sinners, portraying Him as the good shepherd who leaves the ninety-nine secure sheep in the wilderness to diligently search for the one that is lost until it is found, highlighting divine joy over repentance and the value of every individual soul in God's kingdom.
