Luke 18:29

King James Version (1769)

29 And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or parents, or brethren, or wife, or children, for the kingdom of God’s sake,
Untruth

Misinterpretations often twist this promise into a prosperity gospel assurance of material wealth and luxurious replacements for what is sacrificed, overlooking the context of spiritual rewards like fellowship in the faith community alongside persecutions; others erroneously claim it requires literal, permanent abandonment of family duties, ignoring that it addresses the prioritized cost of following Christ rather than forbidding all familial care, or apply it selectively to apostles alone rather than all disciples.

Truth

Jesus assures his disciples that anyone who sacrifices earthly possessions and relationships—such as house, parents, siblings, spouse, or children—for the sake of the Kingdom of God will receive manifold more in this present age, including a spiritual family in the church amid trials, and in the age to come, eternal life, emphasizing that the cost of radical discipleship is outweighed by God's generous rewards both now and forever.
