Luke 21:14

King James Version (1769)

14 Settle it therefore in your hearts, not to meditate before what ye shall answer:
Untruth

This verse is often misinterpreted as a blanket prohibition against all preparation for speeches or defenses in any context, such as sermons or legal arguments, ignoring its specific application to sudden persecutions where reliance on the Spirit is vital; others wrongly assume it excuses laziness in Bible study or dismisses thoughtful preparation entirely, or limit it only to the apostles without relevance today, overlooking the broader call to Spirit-led dependence amid hostility.

Truth

Jesus encourages his followers facing persecution and arrest to resolve in their hearts not to worry about preparing a defense beforehand, assuring them that the Holy Spirit will supply the right words in that moment, highlighting a profound trust in divine empowerment over human effort during trials of faith.
