Luke 22:26

King James Version (1769)

26 But ye shall not be so: but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve.
Untruth

This passage is often misinterpreted as a call to eliminate all forms of authority or hierarchy in society, church, or family, leading to chaotic egalitarianism that ignores biblical endorsements of structured leadership; others twist it to justify passive inaction or victimhood rather than proactive, sacrificial service, or limit its application solely to ecclesiastical roles while excusing domineering behavior in secular contexts.

Truth

Jesus contrasts worldly leadership, where the greatest exercise authority over others, with kingdom leadership marked by humility and service; true greatness comes from being like the youngest—who have no authority—and like the servant, inverting human hierarchies to emphasize self-lowering love as the path to honor in God's eyes.
