Luke 23:29

King James Version (1769)

29 For, behold, the days are coming, in the which they shall say, Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never bare, and the paps which never gave suck.
Untruth

This verse is often misinterpreted as a general endorsement of childlessness or barrenness as spiritually superior or preferable in all circumstances, promoting anti-natalist views that contradict the Bible's consistent celebration of fruitfulness and children as blessings from God; others detach it from its specific prophetic context of Jerusalem's impending doom, applying it literally to modern personal situations like infertility without acknowledging Jesus' focus on the unique tribulation ahead for that generation.

Truth

Jesus, while being led to crucifixion, prophetically warns the weeping women of Jerusalem of a coming time of unprecedented suffering and judgment on the city due to its rejection of him, so severe that barren women and those who never nursed will be called blessed, spared the deeper pain of seeing their children perish amid the horrors, as fulfilled in the Roman destruction of Jerusalem in AD 70, urging recognition of the Messiah and repentance before calamity strikes.
