Mark 4:31

King James Version (1769)

31 It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when it is sown in the earth, is less than all the seeds that be in the earth:
Untruth

Misinterpretations often treat the mustard seed literally as the world's smallest seed, overlooking its hyperbolic language for emphasis, or detach it from the kingdom of God to apply solely to personal faith size or motivational self-help for worldly success; some view it as endorsing unchecked expansionism or prosperity from minimal effort, ignoring the parable's focus on divine initiative and spiritual fruitfulness rather than human achievement.

Truth

This verse introduces the parable of the mustard seed, illustrating the core truth that the kingdom of God starts from the humblest and most insignificant beginnings, like the tiniest seed sown in the earth, yet possesses inherent potential for extraordinary growth into a large plant that provides shelter and signifies God's transformative power in expanding His reign despite apparent smallness.
