Matthew 22:31

King James Version (1769)

31 But as touching the resurrection of the dead, have ye not read that which was spoken unto you by God, saying,
Untruth

Misinterpretations include seeing the passage as proof only of an immediate disembodied afterlife or immortal soul without bodily resurrection, ignoring Jesus' explicit focus on the resurrection of the dead; others wrongly claim it supports annihilationism or that the patriarchs are merely remembered by God, missing the key inference from God's present-tense language that they are alive unto Him.

Truth

Jesus uses this verse to affirm the resurrection of the dead to the Sadducees, who denied it, by pointing to God's self-identification in Exodus 3:6 as the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the present tense, logically arguing that God is not the God of the dead but of the living, thus proving the patriarchs live on and resurrection is real.
