Proverbs 19:19

King James Version (1769)

19 A man of great wrath shall suffer punishment: for if thou deliver him, yet thou must do it again.
Untruth

Misinterpretations often include seeing the verse as endorsing the abandonment of anyone struggling with anger without compassion or discernment, ignoring the value of wise help in genuine repentance; or as a blanket prohibition against all forms of anger, overlooking biblical examples of righteous indignation. Another error is applying it to justify harsh personal vengeance rather than allowing natural consequences, or misreading it through a lens of unlimited forgiveness that ignores healthy boundaries in dealing with habitual, unrepentant wrath.

Truth

This proverb warns that a person dominated by intense, uncontrolled anger will inevitably face punishment or consequences for their actions, as wrath leads to destructive outcomes. It cautions against repeatedly rescuing such an individual from the repercussions of their temper, because doing so only perpetuates the cycle, requiring endless interventions and preventing them from learning accountability and self-control.
