Ecclesiastes 8:1

King James Version (1769)

1 Who is as the wise man? and who knoweth the interpretation of a thing? a man’s wisdom maketh his face to shine, and the boldness of his face shall be changed.
Untruth

Misinterpretations often reduce the 'shining face' to mere physical beauty or charisma unrelated to moral insight, overlooking its metaphorical representation of wisdom's illuminating effect on character. Another common error treats the change in 'boldness of the face' as superficial emotional masking or forced smiles for social advantage, rather than a profound inner transformation where wisdom tempers arrogance with teachable grace and aligns one's expression with godly understanding.

Truth

Ecclesiastes 8:1 extols the value of wisdom by rhetorically questioning who can match the wise person who discerns the true meaning of matters. It teaches that wisdom brightens one's countenance, imparting a radiant glow that reflects inner understanding and insight, while also softening a stern or defiant facial expression, leading to a transformed demeanor marked by humility, clarity, and approachability in the face of life's complexities.
