I Chronicles 29:18

King James Version (1769)

18 O Lord God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, our fathers, keep this for ever in the imagination of the thoughts of the heart of thy people, and prepare their heart unto thee:
Untruth

A common misinterpretation views the phrase 'imagination of the thoughts of the heart' as referring to whimsical fantasies or sinful daydreams that need divine control, akin to negative uses in Genesis 6:5, whereas here it positively denotes the deep-seated purposes and inclinations of the heart; others might see it as a magical formula for forcing unwavering piety without acknowledging the need for personal response, ignoring the broader context of covenant faithfulness and voluntary commitment in Israel's worship.

Truth

In David's prayer during the dedication of temple resources, he petitions God to eternally sustain the devotion and inclinations of His people's hearts, asking that their inner purposes remain fixed on Yahweh and that God would continually prepare and direct their hearts toward faithful obedience, emphasizing human dependence on divine grace to maintain spiritual loyalty across generations.
