I Samuel 9:18

King James Version (1769)

18 Then Saul drew near to Samuel in the gate, and said, Tell me, I pray thee, where the seer’s house is.
Untruth

Misinterpretations of this verse often portray Saul as foolish or unqualified for kingship due to his ignorance of Samuel's identity, ignoring the prior divine revelation to Samuel about Saul's arrival and the broader context of God's intentional leading; others mistakenly equate the biblical seer with occult diviners, reducing Samuel's role to superstition rather than recognizing him as God's faithful prophet conveying divine will, thus distorting the emphasis on providential guidance.

Truth

In 1 Samuel 9:18, Saul unknowingly approaches Samuel, the prophet God has already identified as the one to anoint him king, asking directions to the seer's house, which demonstrates God's sovereign providence in orchestrating seemingly chance encounters to fulfill His purposes, guiding individuals precisely to the divine appointments prepared for them without their awareness.
