I Samuel 9:19

King James Version (1769)

19 And Samuel answered Saul, and said, I am the seer: go up before me unto the high place; for ye shall eat with me to day, and to morrow I will let thee go, and will tell thee all that is in thine heart.
Untruth

Misinterpretations often portray Samuel as a mystical fortune-teller engaging in divination rather than a true prophet speaking God's words, misconstrue the 'high place' as promoting pagan or unauthorized worship instead of a legitimate pre-temple site for Israelite sacrifices, or reduce the promise to tell 'all that is in thine heart' to mere psychological counseling or mind-reading, overlooking the context of God's anointing Saul as king and the emphasis on divine foreknowledge and calling.

Truth

In this moment, Samuel confirms his identity as the prophet, known as the 'seer,' to Saul, whom God has already identified as the future king of Israel, and extends an invitation for Saul to dine with him at the high place after a sacrificial meal, assuring him that the next day he will reveal God's specific plans, including the matters weighing on Saul's heart, highlighting themes of divine selection, prophetic authority, and God's sovereign guidance in leadership transition.
