Isaiah 49:7

King James Version (1769)

7 Thus saith the Lord, the Redeemer of Israel, and his Holy One, to him whom man despiseth, to him whom the nation abhorreth, to a servant of rulers, Kings shall see and arise, princes also shall worship, because of the Lord that is faithful, and the Holy One of Israel, and he shall choose thee.
Untruth

A common misinterpretation views this solely as a promise to the nation of Israel collectively, overlooking the individual Servant figure central to Isaiah's prophecies, leading to a nationalistic reading that ignores the Messianic fulfillment in Jesus Christ; others might apply it superficially to personal vindication or success in the face of criticism, missing the redemptive context of suffering servant leading to global worship, or erroneously see it as guaranteeing earthly power for the despised without the emphasis on God's faithful choice amid rejection.

Truth

This passage prophesies the ultimate vindication of God's chosen Servant, despised and rejected by humanity and nations, who will be honored by kings and princes rising to pay homage, not due to the Servant's own merit but because of the Lord's faithfulness as Israel's Redeemer and Holy One who has selected him. It underscores God's sovereign plan to exalt the humble Servant, pointing to the Messiah's rejection followed by exaltation, offering hope that divine purpose prevails over human contempt.
