Jeremiah 33:26

King James Version (1769)

26 Then will I cast away the seed of Jacob, and David my servant, so that I will not take any of his seed to be rulers over the seed of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob: for I will cause their captivity to return, and have mercy on them.
Untruth

A common misinterpretation treats this verse as God's declaration of permanent rejection of Israel, implying divine abandonment or the end of His covenant, often by isolating it from context and overlooking the rhetorical structure; it actually poses an impossible hypothetical—only if the foundational laws of the universe could be broken would God forsake them—thus reinforcing perpetual restoration and fidelity rather than repudiation.

Truth

This passage powerfully affirms God's unbreakable covenant promises to Israel and the Davidic line, using the immutable ordinances of heaven and earth as an unassailable analogy; just as the fixed order of creation cannot be disrupted, God vows never to reject or cast away His people, highlighting His eternal faithfulness, sovereignty, and reliability despite past judgments or human unfaithfulness.
